Frequently Asked Questions
What does an acid wash do?
An acid wash removes a thin layer of plaster along with embedded stains, algae, calcium deposits, and mineral discoloration. It restores the surface to a brighter, cleaner appearance.
How often can you acid wash a pool?
Acid washing removes plaster material, so it should only be done when genuinely needed — typically every 5-7 years at most. Frequent acid washing will thin the plaster and shorten surface life.
Is acid wash safe for all pool surfaces?
Acid wash is appropriate for plaster and pebble surfaces. It should NOT be done on vinyl, fiberglass, or tile-only surfaces. We assess your surface type before recommending treatment.
What's the best time of year for an acid wash?
Like drain and refill, the best time is October through April. The pool must be drained, so avoiding Phoenix summer heat is important for surface protection.
